Ban Krut North, Ban Krut (Upper Gulf)
Ban Krut is a nice social place to spend time on the beach. The beaches are long, and during high tide there is more than enough space to spread out your beach towel and relax. We enjoyed the small village, it gave us a good vibe.
During the week you will run into other tourists enjoying the beach. During the weekend busses drop locals off to spend the weekend in Ban Krut, but the beach is long enough that you can always find a nice quiet spot to stretch out. At the northern end of the village there is a hill with a golden Buddha and a temple well worth visiting. Up north you will find a more quiet beach of Ban Krut North.
Some of the places provide fishing trips (2000 baht) for up to 4 persons. Snorkeling trips are offered to Ko Talu. But it is a 1-hour drive to Ko Talu, and it is easier to get to the island from Bang Saphan.
Ban Krut North is located 4 km north of Ban Krut Village. The beach is 6 km long and divided into 3 bays. A wide, quiet and clean beach. We’ve discovered over 10 resorts (midrange and upper range) and have listed our 4 favorites.
In the northern part of this beach there are 2 stays in the higher segment. We like the new modern Sunshine Paradise Resort. You can choose between a villa with a private pool, a garden bungalow or a room in the main building. All rooms offer great value for money. More expensive, and another great place to stay, is the Sirarun Resort. Stylish bungalows near a lovely swimming pool. You can even rent your own villa with private pool for up to 14 people.
Two kilometers to the south is SalaCoco Beach House, a residential house with a cottage. There are no signs on the roads, but it is next to Kasemsuk Resort and close to the hill with the temple. In the cottage there are 2 nice rooms surrounded by a pleasant garden. Both rooms have their own bathroom. A kitchen can be added to the rooms for an additional 1,000 baht/night. The owner serves a nice breakfast, for lunch and dinner you have to go to one a the restaurants. The closest restaurant is only a 2-minute walk. Located just north of SalaCoco, Baan Montra offers nicely bungalows designed bungalows in a Moroccan style and there is a small swimming pool.
Most stays have their own restaurants, and if you’re in a more social mood you can easily take a scooter to the village.
Ban Krut is located 75 km south of Prachuap Khiri Khan and 88 km from Chumphon Airport. Nok Air and Airasia have daily flights from Bangkok to Chumpon. Ban Krut has its own train station 2 km from the beach. You can take the morning train from Bangkok at 8:10 AM, arriving at Ban Krut at 2:45 PM.
Minibuses run from Prachuap Khiri Khan to Bang Saphan every 40 minutes and drop you off at the highway junction, an hour journey. From there it is another 8 kilometers, a motorcycle taxi can take you to the beach; the taxi costs about 100 baht/person. It is easy to rent a scooter in Ban Krut.
