Ao Si, Ko Jum

BEACH
In our opinion, Ao Si is the best beach on Ko Jum. It is an intimate beach with only a few simple overnight accommodations. Ao Si is one of the picturesque bays of the island. The beach is known for its soft, golden sands and quietness, making it an ideal destination to enjoy the natural beauty of the island. Dream away for a moment while enjoying the view of the palm trees.

Most accommodations can be found on the south side of the beach. The north side of the bay is quiet, although here you can find monkeys on the beach. Climb the small hill for a panoramic view and take some nice holiday pictures.

The sea at Ao Si is usually calm and tranquil, especially during the high season (November to April). Pay attention to the swimming conditions at low tide since the coast is rocky. Nonetheless, there are still places where you are able to jump into the water safely.

WHERE TO STAY
Sun Smile Beach Bungalow and Cha Cha Bungalows are good budget options which offer simple but clean bungalows located at a good swimming section of the beach. At the northern part of the beach, Ao Si Bungalows is just reopening (March 2023) although some repairs are still needed.

Koh Jum Seafront and Jungle Hill Bungalows are located on the south part of the beach, where the wooden bungalows are built on the hillside. Please note that at low tide swimming, is not possible near Koh Jum Seafront and Jungle Hill Bungalows, you have to walk 100 meters to Sun Smile Beach Bungalow.

All stays have restaurants and there is a beach bar. Another option would be to walk 10 minutes to the main road where you will find some alternative places to eat.

ISLAND
Ko Jum (South Andaman) is a smaller, more relaxed version of its neighbor Ko Lanta. Most of the beaches are located on the west side of the island, allowing visitors to enjoy the sunset. The northern part of the island is also called Ko Pu, but we stick with the name Ko Jum.

While the beaches on the northwest side of Ko Jum are equally beautiful, they are too rocky for swimming at low tide. That’s why we don’t mention the beaches in this area. The beaches we included in our list are accessible for swimming all day. At low tide there are rocks in the sand, but you will find enough places to enter the water.

WHAT TO DO
Ko Jum is a place where you can slow down and enjoy the simple pleasures of an authentic Thai island experience. Swimming, snorkeling and exploring the island by scooter are the most popular activities on Ko Jum. The island is relatively small, making bikes or scooters the the most convenient way to get around the area.

Here, you can enjoy nature, visit the small villages, and enjoy the local atmosphere. You can follow cooking and boxing classes on the island! In the south is the town of Ban Ko Jum, where you can eat out at simple little restaurants with tasty food. There are some small shops but there is no ATM, so make sure to bring cash.

TRANSPORT
Ko Jum can be reached by taking a minibus or taxi (500-600 baht) from Krabi (airport) to Laem Kruat Pier, where a shared longtail boat (140 baht) will take visitors to Ko Jum. The shared longtail boats depart 8 times a day. Alternative transportation would be to take the speedboat connection from and to Ko Lanta (850 baht).

Most stays rent scooters.
